Visitations: Saramago’s Journey

Visitations: Saramago’s Journey

Description

After visiting Gil Vicente and Fernando Pessoa, and presenting a quite unique online edition dedicated to Freedom, Visitations arrives at the work of one of the most notable Portuguese writers, José Saramago, in his centenary year. Over a series of weekly gatherings, and with the support of an artistic team, children and young people of various school ages will be challenged to read contextualised excerpts of Saramago’s works and take them into the universe of other artistic expressions: theatre, dance, music, etc. The intention behind this is not the “dramatisation” of the texts or their transposition to the stage. The main objective is to encourage reflection on Saramago’s work, bringing it closer to the participants by building a bridge between the writer’s writing and the lives of the new generations of his readers. The full set of produced works, which will be presented at the São Bento da Vitória Monastery in the form of a path through various spaces, will also take the form of an itinerary the writer’s work. By reading and re-reading Saramago, we make his work increasingly our own.
