Segunda 2

Segunda 2 [ Monday 2 ] (2021) puts us in mind of Sábado 2 [ Saturday 2 ], the inaugural choreography of Companhia Paulo Ribeiro, premiered in 1995. 26 years apart, one thing connects them: the beginning of a new work cycle. Segunda 2 does not intend to recollect the past, and is equally uninterested in contemplating the future. What drives it is a desire to inscribe itself in the urgency of the present. As if it were saying: “We are here to dance. Tomorrow, we’ll see about it.” In times of lockdown, it signals the joy of a return to choreographic creation, using the notion of fault as a springboard. But let us not be afraid of paradoxes: here, fault acts as a “catalyst of energy and emotion”, a combination of risk and action. Six performers with different training – classical and contemporary dance, street dance and new circus – bring a multiform physicality to Segunda 2 . In the company of these bodies, **Paulo Ribeiro** advances, without looking back. “We are going to be both individuals and a collective. We are going to rediscover joy. We are going to keep on dancing.”
