Sinopse do evento
“I wanted to know who I am” was the Portuguese democracy’s first catchphrase of a revolutionary nature, heard at 22h55 on 24 April 1974, broadcast by the Emissores Associados radio station. Filled with individual and collective wondering, the first line of “E Depois do Adeus”, sung by Paulo de Carvalho, was the Carnation Revolution’s starting signal, turning a simple love song into a byword for freedom. Quis Saber Quem Sou [ I Wanted to Know Who I Am ], a show halfway between a concert and a stage play, revisits the Revolution’s songs, their catchphrases, such as “songs can be weapons”, as well as the personal stories of the generations that caused the 25 April events to come to pass, told and sung by young (16 to 25 years old) actors/singers/musicians selected during a nationwide audition. Pedro Penim entrusts the memory of the words of freedom to their present (and future) voices and bodies.
