Sinopse do evento
“What anarchy is this?” More than a year later, the “witches” of the small town of Salem return to haunt the Teatro São João stage. Actually, they had never gone away. Fear, lies, manipulation and the destructive force of vengeance continue to claim their victims daily, in newspapers and TV channels, in the streets and on social media. Inspired by a historical event – the witchcraft trials that raged through that Puritan town in 1692 Massachusetts –, this play by Arthur Miller, which premiered in 1953, draws a parallel between that episode and Senator McCarthy’s persecution of American communists during the so-called “witch hunt” of the 1950s. Staged by Nuno Cardoso, As Bruxas de Salém [ The Crucible ] returns for a new season. “The Devil’s loose”, once again. “Or did I dream that?”
