I have that within which passes show. Hamlet – William Shakespeare
Sinopse do evento
This March 27, we celebrate theatre where it operates: on stage, backstage and, taking Hamlet’s words as inspiration, in what we have within. We open the doors of Teatro São João and Mosteiro de São Bento da Vitória, two of our national monuments, to reveal them not only as sites of remarkable architectural value, but also as spaces where stage work matures. We invite the public to an open rehearsal of our next production, Hamlet, directed by Nuno Cardoso. In a special session of Leituras no Mosteiro, we propose Variations on Hamlet. We are reading two unique appropriations of the Shakespearean text, very different and yet very similar, set apart by half a century: Luis Buñuel’s parodic reading, Hamlet – Tragédia Cómica (1927), written shortly before his debut as a filmmaker, and Hamlet Machine (1977), the demolishing version authored by German playwright Heiner Müller. On the same day, all books in the TNSJ bookshop can be bought at Book Fair prices. “Who calls me?”
