Readings at the Monastery

Sinopse do evento

The ship of words is ready, and the wind is in its sails. Over the first semester of 2025, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Camões’ birth, our Readings at the Monastery will embark on a journey around Portuguese-language theatre, focusing particularly on the work of contemporary playwrights. Aboard are quite a few authors whose work sets Portuguese theatre into many different dramaturgical exploration routes. The journey ends in June, with the reading of Camões’ three known plays, all of them comedies: Filodemo, Auto chamado dos Enfatriões and Comédia d’El-Rei Seleuco. A great celebration of Portuguese language and its theatre, as we commemorate fifteen years of Readings at the Monastery. “And there would hasten had but Earth more ground.”
