Nossa Pátria Está Onde Somos Amados

Alongside Língua Brasileira, we will present Nossa Pátria Está Onde Somos Amados [Your Homeland Is Where You Are Loved], filmed by Felipe Hirsch in May 2022 at the Portuguese Language Museum (São Paulo). This documentary on the words that bring us together and draw us apart showcases a number of different voices: from the young man who climbed up a tower block to paint on it the sentence used as the film’s title to shaman Kopenawa, who went to São Paulo as a representative of the Yanomami indigenous people to state that he views the Portuguese language as a threat. “These linguistic epiphanies can show us how it is possible for a country and a language to encompass an enormous variety of homelands”, states Felipe Hirsch.
