“The poem is alone./ And, unable to bear life on its own, it sings.” During a special acoustic concert within the set of Falsas Histórias Verdadeiras: Uma Pina Colagem, A Garota Não sings the songs she wrote for the show, as well as other pieces taken from her three albums. She is one of the foremost figures of contemporary Portuguese pop music; hers is a voice that, going against the grain, gleans the past and our memories so as to better sing about the present, and thus feels at home in Manuel António Pina’s universe. In her songs, words (carefully weighed) and music (combining various sound styles) aim at making us hear and see the reverse of existence, as in these lines by Pina: “Music has dazzling eyes/ that move around the fire./ If they see you, you become song/ for song is what you are, like all else.”
