Sinopse do evento

One 27 June 1973, in Uruguay, a coup brought to power a civilian-military dictatorship that lasted until March 1985. Fifty years later, in May 2023, Santiago Sanguinetti wrote and brought to the stage, in Montevideo, the play Zombi Manifiesto, which FITEI now revives. Two young persons discover that the soldiers buried in the local cemetery come to life as zombies when they hear someone recite passages from the Communist Manifest. They decide to resurrect and abduct a lieutenant of the National Army, forcing him to learn Marxist philosophy. After remembering who killed him, the soldier escapes and demands post-mortem justice. Is this a dark comedy? An irreverent farce? A deeply political work, Zombi Manifiesto avoids clichés and lets laughter loose, while presenting a savage critique of capitalism, an economic system that breeds living dead, i.e. ourselves. It asks: which is the best means for changing the world, political correctness or class consciousness? The theatre continues to be a place for debate and reflection.
