With The Days Before, Robert Wilson completes the Death Destruction & Detriot trilogy begun in 1979 and continued in 1987 inspired by the figures of Rudolph Hess and Franz Kafka, respectively. In completing the cycle under the sign of the apocalypse, Wilson invokes films, videos, slides, actors and dancers onto the stage to construct twelve pictures inspired by apocalyptic imagery that are as much interdependent mental spaces, furiously resisting any narrative linearity or interpretative logic. Umberto Eco's texts, taken from The Island of the Day Before and Christopher Knowles' Tone Poems, as well as the music of Ryuichi Sakamoto, contribute to the celebration of a theatre of visions both marvellous and rigorous..
"A strange and seductive vision of the
apocalypse... A surreal and hallucinatory universe. |
