The experience of motherhood plunged Catherine Gaudet into a vertigo from which emerged The Fading of the Marvelous, 2018. Fascinated by the body’s subtle changes, the Canadian choreographer operates a depuration of her language, until now rather theatrical. On an empty white stage, five dancers move in unison, in lines or in circles, or else individualising themselves in seductive poses or challenging solos. The exactitude and sensuality of The Fading of the Marvelous are driven by hypnotic rhythms that punctuate the dancers’ constant metamorphoses, from serenity to a scream, from violence to catharsis, in an intense, ritualised meditation on the human condition.
