Description
The 45th FITEI – International Theatre Festival of Iberian Expression invites us to “imagine the future”. Such is the challenge that British playwright Caryl Churchill issues in Distante (Far Away, 2000), a play staged by Teresa Coutinho. In an arena-stage, three characters move across three scenes and three times. Through the seams of a domestic environment, we catch glimpses of a totalitarian regime that institutionalises fear. The show relies on the present relevance of the parables the play evokes, asking: on whose side are we, the viewers?
