Description
Francisco Luís Parreira, the Portuguese translator of Mark O’Rowe’s texts, will direct a reading of excerpts from Terminus (2007) and Crestfall (2003). These two plays, which appear to almost mirror one another, interweave three monologues – that “illusion of presence through voices”, as is said in one of them. These eschatological linguistic experiments, shot through with the power of poetry and myth, combine into a polyhedral narrative to which the reader/viewer gains access via a sort of mental film editing. Closely related in terms of destitution and disaster, the characters (largely female here) describe themselves as “overcome with a want that’s potent and profound”. Their only hope of redemption lies perhaps in a more tender self-awareness. As a conclusion to this reading programme, we will launch the 31st volume of our collection, a joint project with the Húmus publishing house, which contains three plays by O’Rowe: Our Few and Evil Days, Made in China and Crestfall.
