Assim se Fazem as Coisas: Monumental Revista Antipopularuxos

Description

The Palmilha Dentada company is aware of humour’s redemptive value. Is it possible to laugh at the “whirlwind of emotions and events” of the COVID years? “More than ever, we need to laugh”, they tell us. Assim se Fazem as Coisas: Monumental Revista Antipopularuxos [That’s the Way You Do It: Monumental Anti-Razzle-Dazzle Revue] is the vehicle that Ricardo Alves has created to help us distance ourselves and attain laughter. The playwright/stage director draws inspiration from the revue, a theatrical form in which recent events were “reviewed” through a satyric gaze, a popular kitschy entertainment that originated in France and had several versions in other nations, such as the Portuguese revista. Assim se Fazem as Coisas is, then, “a revue of the past year”, this “year that were two”, a look into our experience of the pandemic. Coming from Palmilha Dentada, this revue could be nothing else than “monumental” and “anti-razzle-dazzle”, with a liberating, counter-current stance.
