Description
From April to June, our Readings at the Monastery will remain rooted in Portuguese-language contemporary dramaturgy. Since last December, we have been exploring the theatrical universe of a number of Portuguese, Brazilian and Afro-descendant authors. Memory, identity and autobiography are the main factors in this quarter’s texts, which were written by playwrights/stage directors, most of which also possess acting experience. The words of Raquel André, Tiago Cadete, Raquel Castro, Victor de Oliveira, Pedro Fiúza and Raquel S. will take us to Brazil in an Atlantic cruise, to an experiential limbo between Mozambique, Portugal and France, to a death-haunted Christmas family dinner, to a fictitious funeral. With these words, we plot a journey that prompts a re-reading of History, a search for other stories and voices, an inquiry into belonging and the human condition. Several mirror-texts await our reading. “What are you reading from where you stand?”
