Description
After a successful first edition, chamber music returns to the São Bento da Vitória Monastery for a second volume of the MUSIC4L-MENTE cycle, a partnership between the DSCH – Schostakovich Ensemble, the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education and the Teatro Nacional São João. This set of concerts will take place between December 2022 and June 2023 and feature performances of major pieces from composers from the 18th century to the present day, ushered in by scientific preludes that explore intersections between music and science. In this first concert, a quite unique Christmas overture, pianist and artistic director Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro (who continues to curate MUSIC4L-MENTE) is joined by two leading musicians in the international scene – German violinist Viviane Hagner and Swiss cellist Christian Poltéra – to direct us through two emblematic trio pieces by Dvořák and Beethoven. The second concert, which is scheduled for February, will feature the music of Schubert and the world premiere of Dreaming and Thinking, a piece by US composer Bruce Adolphe, inspired by the writings of Albert Einstein and António Damásio.
