Uma Ideia de Justiça

Description

What is justice? And injustice? Uma Ideia de Justiça [An Idea of Justice], directed by Joana Providência and written by Isabel Minhós Martins, is a show that literally puts these questions on the table, a table on which a notion of justice is being developed. Around it, there are special chairs to accommodate everyone: those who have long legs, those who cannot sit still, those who always come and those who usually aren’t invited. On it, we find several props: say, a platter filled with fruit. Who is hungrier? Who hasn’t eaten yet? Who has the right to this fruit? Similar questions are asked when rights, duties or freedoms are on the table. By taking on such subjects as diversity, personal choice, equality and freedom, the show aims at becoming a means to the construction of justice. And follow the spirit of Sophia de Mello Breyner’s words: “Those who see the world’s astonishing splendour are logically led to see the world’s astonishing pain.”
