Eastern Performing Arts Course

Description

The lack of regular contact with the Eastern stage arts and their absence from our cultural consumption habits are the reason to carry out a course to promote them, thus allowing its participants to properly approach these disciplines in all their richness and diversity. The syllabus comprises a set of ancient and modern Eastern scenic forms – hailing more specifically from India, Indonesia and the rest of Southeast Asia, and from the Far East (China and Japan). Over seven sessions, under the guidance of Francisco Luís Parreira, the technical and performative features of these arts will be analysed, together with their various persistent cultural, ideological and religious contexts. Francisco Luís Parreira holds a PhD in Communication Sciences from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and is a professor at Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema. He collaborates regularly with the TNSJ, in the qualities of essayist, translator and playwright. He is also the author of a Portuguese critical edition of the Babylonian poem The Epic of Gilgamesh.
