Readings at the Monastery
Sinopse do evento
Over the next six months, our Readings at the Monastery will focus on a small but representative sample of the work carried out by EURODRAM, an informal network that promotes the translation, circulation and divulgation of contemporary dramatic texts. In spite of the Euro “prefix”, the network’s scope also encompasses Mediterranean and Central Asian languages and structures, in a dynamics of authors’ residencies, translators’ support and promotion of international partnerships. The texts that will fill every third Tuesday night in each month have come from a larger selection provided by the Portuguese Committee of EURODRAM, directed by Maria João Vicente and featuring such names as Fernando Matos Oliveira, Alexandra Moreira da Silva and Nuno M Cardoso. Right from the start, four playwrights struck us as especially noteworthy: Dimítris Dimitriádis (Greece), **Mark Ravenhill (UK), Neda Nezhdana (Ukraine) and Gianina Crbunariu (Romania). Their voices, with all that can be gained and lost in translation, make up these journeys through cosmopolitan, plural, Babelian worlds without frontiers.
