Description
Music makes a very special comeback to the São Bento da Vitória Monastery with the cycle MUSIC4L-MENTE, a partnership between the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, the Teatro Nacional São João and DSCH – Associação Musical. Curated by pianist Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, MUSIC4L-MENTE explores the intersection of music and the neurosciences in a series of chamber music concerts with scientific preludes. Four world-class string quartets – Michelangelo, Hermès, Cosmos and Gropius – will make their Portuguese debut, playing key works by major composers. Four guest speakers, researchers of international renown, will present lectures on the intimate (physiological, therapeutical) relationship between music (sound, noise) and the brain. It is in the brain that music happens, it is in the brain that we interpret it. The concerts that follow the preludes put us to the test by putting music in our heads, which we will enjoy in a more conscious and informed condition. The first two concerts of MUSIC4L-MENTE, a cycle of noticeable international importance, in both musical and scientific terms, will take place in November and January, while the final two will be held in April and June.
